Message from the Chairman, Comfort Keepers WA

March 25, 2020

To our Valued Clients, Staff & Families,

The recent events surrounding COVID 19 (Corona Virus) has taken the world by storm.

It has stopped us in our tracks and taken us all by surprise with its speed and vigour across the Globe.

As aged care specialists, committed to facilitating independent living and a better quality of life, our team is working 24-7 to ensure that the health and well-being all of our Clients, extended families and loved ones, is the number one priority.

Guided by government policy, industry best-practice and our broader global CK network, we are focusing on responding to your needs as quickly as possible, no matter how big or small.

As we know, the aim is to try and slow the spread of virus so that the health impact, particularly on the elderly and vulnerable, is flattened or delayed to allow for proper health care and to prevent the overloading of our health and support services.

As we continue to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak, we will act accordingly, on the information provided from the State and Federal Government, Department of Health and the World Health Organisation.

Comfort Keepers has taken a number of steps to assist in reducing the impact of the virus.  These include (not limited to):

  • Being available with a 24-7 client access phone contact – (08) 9492 8920
  • Educating and up-skilling our support workers in  infection control, symptom identification and response procedures,
  • Increase of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and anti-bacterial procedures
  • Introduction of stringent In-Home care processes for clients
  • Personal & regular client letters and communications
  • Continuous monitoring and alignment with government & industry policies.

At the core, is an unrelenting and dedicated effort to ensure that each and every person receives the highest level of care possible in Western Australia, within the extraordinary set of circumstances that we all face.

As  Australia introduces stringent policies  to slow its spread, we strongly encourage all Seniors  to self isolate, wherever possible, focus on their health, safety and diets and to ask for help and support from your family, friends, neighbours, or organisations – like Comfort Keepers – as needed.

We will also partner and work with our industry colleagues, to ensure that it is an integrated and holistic response.

“Our support workers are being up-skilled, trained and monitored to ensure the highest level of care is provided and that their health and wellbeing is also a priority.”

The level of care required might be something new and unprecedented, but together we can and will make a difference.

As a medical specialist, with more than 35 years’ experience and a strong insight to the WA health system, we are doing everything possible to handle this situation facing WA. We are extremely fortunate to have  world-class facilities and medical practitioners across our State, poised and ready to assist those in need.

We all need to do our bit, and we strongly encourage all of our clients and family members to contact us if we can help in any way, during this time.

If you are unsure about welcoming a caregiver into your home at this time – talk to us first. Our services will continue as normal until further notice.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need more information or would like to talk about alternative services –   such as regular phone calls, FaceTime or door to door shopping deliveries – we are here to help!

I also encourage  you to read the recommendations & tips on presentation and health measures from the Comfort Keepers CEO in the US, as included on our site.

Our team is on stand-by, we have a 24-7 phone hotline for our clients and will work to respond with the highest possible level of professional, medical and in-home support.

Please take care, stay informed and don’t hesitate to contact us, if needed.

Yours sincerely:

Dr Garry Garside MBBS FAFOM MBA
